The Best People = The Best Results.

People make the difference. That is the leadership philosophy behind Progressive Builders’ success, and it starts with the company owner and president Mike Spreckelmeier. In addition to personally leading each and every project with care and expertise, Mike has selected the area’s very best artisans to create a team that shares his commitment to excellence, his heart for the community, and his professionalism on the job. Our clients can testify to the results – Read their testimonials and see examples of our work in Our Portfolio.

Michael Spreckelmeier
Michael SpreckelmeierPresident & Owner

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike moved to Florida at a young age. He spent much of his childhood shadowing his grandfather who was a masonry contractor. Mike had a carpenter’s pencil before his first crayon. He liked blueprints over comic books. And after a five-year adventure in the commercial fishing profession as a young man, he made construction his profession.

Mike worked for Honc Construction for six years, pouring concrete, running heavy equipment, driving dump trucks, forming seawalls and building docks. In 1987, he started working with a longtime friend building homes on Pine Island, and in 1989 Progressive Builders was born. “Dreams do come true,” Spreckelmeier reflected in 2015 as he celebrated 26 years in business.

Mike is an avid fisherman (but only for fun now), and he is a fan and member of Next Level Church. In 2014, Mike was awarded the Rotarian of the Year Award by the 165-member club. Although it’s not his only award, Mike calls it his favorite award because it was about his heartfelt service to the community, and he was not trying for an award. Mike also supports Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers, Katelynn’s Closet, Relay for Life, Young Life, and Rotary International.

Mike married his sweetheart Liz in 1996, and the happy couple share a great life full of fun, laughter and respect.

Our Valuable Team Members

David Wherry
David WherryProject Consultant
David Wherry is originally from St. Marys, West Virginia, and holds a business degree from West Virginia University. He relocated to Fort Myers in 2002 to work in the PGA golfing apprentice program. He went on to work for Home Depot, learning valuable business systems, management skills, and what it takes to run a multi-million dollar business. He also owned his own commercial and residential cleaning company for six years and worked for Progressive Builders first as a subcontractor.

“After working with the Progressive Builders team as a subcontractor, I welcomed the opportunity to join a company with a culture and values that were in line with my own,” says David.

David joined Progressive Builders in 2012 and previously served as production manager before transitioning to his current role as project consultant. David is responsible for many tasks including homeowner consultations, designer coordination, project budgeting, and subcontractor and supplier management and relations.

In his free time he enjoys spending time with his nine-year-old daughter and wife. They all enjoy getting outside golfing, running, kayaking, fishing, boating, and relaxing on the beautiful beaches here in SWFL!

Ruth Amore
Ruth AmoreOffice Manager
Ruth Amore became an entrepreneur in 1981 when she and her husband started a plumbing and heating company out of their home in New Jersey. For 18 years, Ruth’s responsibilities included accounting, human resources and all the other office duties needed for a very successful company. As the company grew, she managed up to 21 employees.

At the same time, Ruth managed a “Mr. Rooter” drain cleaning franchise and owned her own candy shop. She furthered her education in business and raised three daughters who were very active in sports, dance classes and many more activities. Ruth often looks back and wonders how she did all. She takes a lot of pride in her daughters who have grown to be very responsible, successful women.

After flying to Southwest Florida from New Jersey at least twice a year for the past five years to see her daughter, son-in-law and seven grandchildren who live in Naples, Ruth made the decision to move to Southwest Florida this past December. She now has a total of nine grandchildren, seven in Naples and two in Southern New Jersey. When she’s not spending time with her large family, she enjoys biking on Sanibel Island.

Ruth says she feels so blessed to have been hired by Mike at Progressive Builders. She feels it’s an awesome team to be on, and she is looking forward to being a part of another successful company.

The foreman kept me up to date on everything that was happening and treated us and our home with respect.

From start to finish, all contacts with Progressive were positive, professional and a pleasure. We are very pleased with all the work in the remodeling. The best part is that we were away for one month, and the project was fully completed. The house was immaculate when we returned.
