Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike moved to Florida at a young age. He spent much of his childhood shadowing his grandfather who was a masonry contractor. Mike had a carpenter’s pencil before his first crayon. He liked blueprints over comic books. And after a five-year adventure in the commercial fishing profession as a young man, he made construction his profession.
Mike worked for Honc Construction for six years, pouring concrete, running heavy equipment, driving dump trucks, forming seawalls and building docks. In 1987, he started working with a longtime friend building homes on Pine Island, and in 1989 Progressive Builders was born. “Dreams do come true,” Spreckelmeier reflected in 2015 as he celebrated 26 years in business.
Mike is an avid fisherman (but only for fun now), and he is a fan and member of Next Level Church. In 2014, Mike was awarded the Rotarian of the Year Award by the 165-member club. Although it’s not his only award, Mike calls it his favorite award because it was about his heartfelt service to the community, and he was not trying for an award. Mike also supports Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers, Katelynn’s Closet, Relay for Life, Young Life, and Rotary International.
Mike married his sweetheart Liz in 1996, and the happy couple share a great life full of fun, laughter and respect.
